Marketing for Doctors: How to reach potential patients online

patients onlineWe all know that the internet is an amazing place. It can be used to learn, connect, share and purchase just about anything. More recently people have been trying to figure out how to utilize the power of the internet to help people with larger purchases, including things such as cars, houses, and medical procedures. Getting people to choose your big ticket item over someone else’s requires a very different marketing strategy than if you were selling a smaller priced item. When people are spending more money, they do more research. Because of this, it is crucial that your medical practice can be easily found by people searching online. To ensure this happen here are a few things that you should do.

Increase your online presence

If you want to be found online, you should start by creating an online presence. This means that you need to start with a website that has a little bit about your medical practice along with clearly posted contact information. Next you should create business pages on different social sites. Most importantly you should create business pages on GooglePlus, Facebook and Linkedin. GooglePlus helps Google learn more about your company, Facebook has the most diverse audience to reach and Linkedin allows you to connect with other professionals.

Utilize Local Searches

Google’s algorithms take into account thousands of factors when deciding what search results are best for the searcher. It takes into account people’s search history, location, and even their demographic (if they are logged into GooglePlus). Because of this you want to make sure that your medical practice is optimized to be found by potential patients online. One of the best ways to do this is by creating a Google Plus business page. This will allow you to give Google information about your company, including where it is located, so that people searching in that area are more likely to find you.

Create good content

Like I said earlier, the more expensive the item, the more people will research before making a decision. Because of this it is crucial that you create content that answers peoples questions. A great way to do this is by embedding a blog on your site and blogging weekly. Blog about common questions people ask and research what people are searching for in your industry. For example, if you are a dentist you may want to write a post like “How do I know if I need a Root Canal?” If someone is searching that topic and comes across you blog there is a good chance that they need a root canal, making them a potential customer. After they read your blog post they will view you as a reputable source and be more likely to contact you.

Reaching potential patients online is possible if you can post consistently and have patience. It takes time to build up a reputable site, but if you are blogging good quality content and posting on social media consistently you will begin to see results.
